mass: the weight of perceiving
2025 / acrylic paint on cardboard, neon orange tape / assorted sizes
This site-specific art installation in a gym explores weight as more than a physical measure. Beyond kilograms or resistance, weight also resides in the meanings we attach to it — the burdens we carry, the balance we seek, and the shifting forces that shape how we stand in the world. It is at once tangible and intangible: a presence in the body, and an unseen measure of how we navigate life.
The works in this exhibition are grounded yet attentive, holding themselves with quiet strength. Their forms recall the discipline of balance and endurance, where weight is not simply borne but organised — stabilised through deliberate posture, resisting collapse. They suggest that stability, whether physical or emotional, is never passive but forged through an active negotiation with pressures that gather from all sides.
Alongside these larger gestures are pieces that lean toward subtlety — evoking the calibrations and adjustments that keep us upright. Just as the body depends on alignment to stand, we rely on continual shifts of priorities, mindsets, and perceptions to remain balanced. These smaller inflections carry weight of their own, for even the lightest adjustment can alter how we experience circumstance.
Taken together, the works propose that weight is not an absolute but a perception. How it is carried, distributed, or released determines not only the body’s stance but also the ways we move through the balance points of life.
