In April 2023, Ching Kai collaborated with ICON 风华 Magazine, Singapore Press Holdings, to create a series of paper landscapes for high-end jewelry spreads. The project inspired him to hand-dye papers to yield gradients and layered colors, a departure from his usual practice of using pre-made materials, which marked a significant step forward in his exploration of paper as a versatile medium.

Each spread was assembled on-site at the photography studio, where Ching Kai worked closely with the jewelry pieces to ensure seamless integration. The flexibility of assembling the paper elements in situ allowed him to tailor the compositions to enhance the brilliance of the gemstones and intricate metalwork. The juxtaposition of these luxurious materials with the everyday nature of paper created a compelling visual tension.

The final images showcased a unique interplay of textures and colors, elevating the paper medium to complement the sophistication of the jewelry. This collaboration not only demonstrated Ching Kai’s adaptability but also pushed the boundaries of his paper artistry, opening new creative possibilities.
